Today, I took my first hike to the top of Little Blossom which is the peak on the property that leads up to Blossom Peak. The hill is steep from the cabin up to the top, so I took hiking poles with me which helped quite a bit. I followed the zigzagging paths carved out by the deer. Above the cabin is an area fenced in for cattle, which doesn't have any gates at the top. So I found an area that the deer use to cross the fence. You can see it the last photo in the gallery below. I crawled under the fence, which I thinks means I'm smaller than a cow.
The view from Little Blossom is just fantastic. You can look straight onto Blossom Peak, down into the South Fork, out to Lake Keawah and onto main street Three Rivers. It's a steep drop down from Little Blossom into the South Fork, so my mind wouldn't let me too close to that edge. It looks to me like Little Blossom is at about 1,700 feet in altitude, which puts it about 900 feet above the valley. So when you are up there, you can look down at birds that are soaring above the ground. The bird in some of the photos is a vulture.
It didn't take to long to make the climb. Round trip was less than an hour for me and that included time to investigate routes as this was my first time up. I can see more trips up in my future. And next time, I'll have to work on keeping my fingers out of the photo.
