The elevation in Three Rivers and at Blossom Peak Cabin is low enough that there is rarely snow on the ground. However, the elevation in the park is so much higher that snow frequently occurs in the park.

Requirement Based on Weather Conditions
In Sequoia National Park, the use of snow chains is typically determined by current weather conditions. During the winter months, or whenever there is snow or ice on the roads, the park may require all vehicles, including those with four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, to carry chains.
Chain Control Points
The park often sets up chain control points where park rangers check for chains and ensure that vehicles are properly equipped before allowing them to proceed. These points can be located at various places within the park, depending on the snow levels.
